Background:
Founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1902, the school now occupies spacious modern buildings which date from 1976 to 1998. Most recent additions include a nursery class (1998), new music room (2001) and ICT suite (2001). The serves the Catholic communities of Brixton Hill, Herne Hill and Streatham Hill and aims to 'educate the children to the highest possible standard in a community based on gospel values.' Specialist tutors teach extra-curricular activities such as sport, drama, French and music. A 'very active' parents' association recently raised funds to buy a new minibus and parents are involved in a range of school activities. The school won the Evening Standard London Schools Award in 2001. The school choir has appeared with Prime Minister Tony Blair to welcome Nelson Mandela to the Labout Party Conference in Brighton. Corpus Christi is over-subscribed and receives three applications per place place.
