Background:

Allen Edwards is a primary school, located in the Borough of Lambeth, educating children from three to 11 years. It was built in 1956. It is set around a central courtyard, with separate playground areas attached. At one end the school has six lower school classrooms with direct access to the play area. The playcentre room, music hut and separate nursery class are also situated at this end of the school. At the opposite end there are eight junior classrooms, an art and photocopying room, computer room, library and resources area. The school provides older children with more formal training in library skills and before they leave the school, the majority of children will receive some training in research skills. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities. Children in each year, including nursery, are given opportunities to go on a variety of school trips during the school year. There are visits in the local area and to museums, art galleries and theatres. These visits support the national curriculum providing a stimulating and enjoyable starting point or extension of work already undertaken. The school aims to provide a high standard of education through effective teaching and learning for all pupils in a safe, caring, happy and stimulating atmosphere.
