Background:

Hampden Gurney is a Church of England voluntary aided primary school in the Diocese of London. It is a parochial school owned by private parish trustees, maintained by Westminster City Council, and serves a wide Christian community. The school was founded in 1863 by the Reverend Hampden Gurney, Rector of St Mary's Bryanston Square. The first school building was situated on Hampden Gurney Street in the parish of the Church of the Annunciation, Marble Arch in 1967 the school moved to newly-built premises on Nutford Place. The strong links with the Church of the Annunciation continue. After-school care until 7pm, operated by private establishment. Over-subscribed, with 6.7 applications per place.
