Background:

Established in the archdiocese of Southwark in 1953, this 'popular' school is regularly over-subscribed. The 'welcoming, caring and secure' school serves the parishes of Our Lady Immaculate, Tolworth and St Catherine's, Chessington. There are 'very strong' links with the parish and the school is located behind the church of the same name. The grounds comprise a playground, a playing field and a conservation area. Our Lady Immaculate has been enlarged in recent years with additional classrooms being built as the numbers of pupils have increased. Although its 'tight' site in a 'built-up' area leaves little room for expansion, a new library is due to be built for September 2000 and there are plans for an Information and Communications Technology suite. The school has 'strong' community links and has taken part in various national and international fund-raising activities. It also has 'a very strong partnership' with teacher training institutions. Support is available to all children with learning difficulties and to those who are particularly able. Extra-curricular activities include sports, dance, drama and French and there is a breakfast and after-school club which supports working parents. 'Good communications' between school and home encourage parents to help around the classroom.
