Background:
Prince of Wales Primary School is a community school with approximately 600 children, including 60 part-time nursery children. The school was opened in 1950, and its grounds feature gardens, a pond, a sports field, playgrounds and environmental areas. In 2001 a new nursery was opened to replace the old 1960's building. The local environment offers a variety of historical, rural and industrial resources, which provide an excellent stimulus for historical, geographical and technological studies. Children are offered opportunities to participate in after-school activities and are frequently involved in projects in the wider community. There is an active Parents Association which provides social events and activities which raise funds for additional equipment. The school has close links with local playgroups, primary schools, special schools and secondary schools. The school aims to create a happy, secure and caring environment for the whole school community and the wider community.
