Background:

Shirley High School is a six-form entry, 11-16 mixed comprehensive foundation school. Recent building and extension works include a sports hall and a refurbished changing area, a new learning resources centre with full computer facilities, a reception area, a conference room, improved administrative and staff areas, and three new classrooms. In 1998 new design and technology facilities were built including two new workshops, a new materials preparation room and refurbishment of the two other workshops. The school also has refurbished Food Technology kitchens, two newly refurbished science laboratories, two new computer rooms, a new music centre with classrooms, practice rooms and recording studio. The school has been awarded NAACEmark (National Association of Advisers for Computers in Education), the Kitemark Award for community use 2002/2003 and the Open University Initial Teacher Training Partner School Award.
