Background:
St Ignatius College is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Comprehensive day school, admitting boys between the ages of 11 and 18. Since its foundation, St Ignatius College had been in the care of the Society of Jesus. The present College was opened at Stamford Hill in 1894. The College and the Jesuit community were initially accommodated in two houses, Morecombe Lodge and Burleigh House. In 1907 the College was recognised by the Board of Education and began to receive public money towards its support. Teachers at St Ignatius endeavour to foster in pupils a sense of self-worth, achievement and responsibility within the school community.
