Background:

Named after the only English Pope, Nicholas Breakspear, the school was opened in October 1937. It is built on four acres of land and situated in a residential area with 'easy access' to underground and mainline stations. The school occupies a two-storey building planned round a quadrangle with classrooms to the south and west. Facilities include a television room, a music room, a special needs base and a library, and cooking facilities are shared with the infant school. There is also a large playground, two fields and a wilderness area. Breakspear offers a wide variety of sporting activities, and its football and netball teams are 'often successful in inter-school matches'. In the past five years, the school has held the Middlesex inter-school football trophy, the Ruislip and Northwood swimming trophy and the schools' athletics trophy. It also has a choir and orchestra and annually raises money for charity. The school is 'committed to the provision of an ambitious, stimulating and broad education for our pupils'.
