Background:
Harlyn Primary School opened in January 1957. The site covers almost six acres and includes a sports pavilion, three 'large' playing fields, an astro-turf cricket base, a pond, conservation area, and a 'large' quiet seating area. Other facilities include a music room and an ICT room 'equipped with approximately 15 computer systems' and, 'a fully equipped kitchen' for food technology activities. Harlyn offers extra- curricular activities such as choir, orchestra, netball, football, athletics, keep fit, dance and drama, science, chess and French. The school has a 'good' sporting reputation; they were 1998 winners of the borough netball competition and 1999 winners of the Clive Radley cricket trophy. The school'supports local and national charities each year and there is also a school council.
