Background:

A large, urban school situated in the east of Sutton, the majority of High View pupils come from the immediate area. The original red-brick 1930s building was upgraded in 1998 and now boasts a modern extension with six new classrooms, new hall and new playgrounds. There is also a fenced pond within the grounds. There is a multi-purpose hall on-site for gymnastics, and swimming and games facilities are available a short walk from the school. Every classroom has a networked computer and a printer, and there are plans to develop a computer suite. Staff are developing plans to alter the curriculum which emphasises literacy and numeracy - by introducing models such as individual pupil target setting, and setting for maths in Years 4, 5 and 6. Children can learn instruments individually and the choir participates in musical productions and community performances. Other extra-curricular activities include drama, chess, netball and football, and competitive sporting fixtures are regularly arranged. There is also an after school French club for which parents are charged. A thriving and supportive Parent-Teacher Association organizes fundraising and social events. The school tries to present education as a lifelong pursuit. Outside visitors are welcomed into the school to share their experiences and skills with the children, in various areas of culture and sport as well as for safety demonstrations. All classes go on visits to outside places of interest. The school believes it has a unique atmosphere within a happy and secure framework.
