Background:

The school is a two-form county primary school for children from the ages of four to 11 years. The school is housed in two buildings that are joined by a central corridor. The junior department is a traditional brick building with the classrooms grouped around a quadrangle. There are additionally, six mobile classrooms. The school is situated in a large open space, with three playground areas and a large field, giving excellent sports and games facilities. The school curriculum is structured to take account of the range of abilities within each class and of the individual needs of the children. Pupils will all be working on the Foundation curriculum in nursery and reception classes, working in key stage 1 in year 1 and year 2, and in key stage 2 in the subsequent years. Information technology is used across the curriculum all subject areas. Each class has a compact disk read only memory computer. The school also has an up to date information technology room with a further network of computers. Each child is involved in observation, investigation, problem solving and research to achieve an independent attitude and approach towards learning. The learning process, combining match with fitness for purpose, encourages confidence, enthusiasm and enjoyment, motivating each child to produce their best effort. Religious education takes place at all stages of school life. Religious education is taught using a thematic approach as well as being treated as a discrete subject and should increase awareness of self and others, the wonder of the world and respect and tolerance for differing beliefs. The association organises many fund-raising activities to help purchase special items of equipment for the school. It has included such items as new computers, new large apparatus for physical education, books, building a new garden and many other things which the school would have found difficult without personal teaching assistant (PTA) support. The school aims to provide the best possible education for each within the context of a caring community. The school endeavour to provide a happy and caring environment that encourages good habits of work and behaviour and a love of learning. The rules of the school are simple and require each child to show care, respect, courtesy and consideration at all times and to strive to ensure the well-being of all members of both the school and the community.
