Background:

The school is a community school for girls and boys aged seven to 11, situated in the centre of Sutton. The school has a library, information and communication technology (ICT) suite and music and drama room. The large school hall is well equipped with a range of physical education, apparatus and a stage, which has lighting and sound facilities. The hall is also used as a dining area. The school grounds incorporate a grassed area, a large playground markings, a trim trail, a quiet area and two attractive quadrangles, which are used as additional teaching spaces. The school also has a netball court adjacent to the school. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum, which while being very rigorous in core and foundation subjects, gives opportunities for promoting children's skills to think and apply knowledge and to develop other talents and interests. It should also enable a child to develop as an individual, as a member of society and a future member of the community with the necessary personal and social qualities and responsibilities. The teaching of non-denominational religious education promoting spiritual and moral development is also part of the curriculum. The school has a network computer system to which all the systems are linked. Each class has a network computer and 28 computers are based in the suite, which provides for whole class teaching. Religious education is taught in accordance with the syllabus agreed by the Sutton Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE). The school acknowledges all parts of the learning process, believing that learning is best achieved through an environment that praises rather than criticises. The school endeavors to act positively with children as often as possible.
