Background:
A school which values the pupils' diversity and the experience and knowledge that it brings. The school has set up a unique refugee project, Salusbury WORLD, the first initiative of its kind in the country. The school is a registered charity, funded by lottery money and other charities, and this enables five staff and a number of volunteers to work with refugee parents and children in the community. Children of all ages often arrive at the school without any English, so results cannot reach government targets, but pupils are encouraged to develop lively and enquiring minds within a broad curriculum. The school encourages parental involvement and the supportive parent-staff association raises funds to support the school's refugee population and to improve facilities. As a result of its efforts, the playground now boasts murals, plants and an outdoor stage, and a new library has been set up in the attic. Art and drama are strengths of the school and music is particularly encouraged. Choir and recorder groups have participated successfully in Brent music festivals and musicals are performed throughout the year. A breakfast club is available and an after-school club offers drama, volleyball, ICT and football.
