Background:
Stanhope is a large primary school. There is a library with over 5000 books, and specialist rooms for the teaching of science, art and music as well as an information and communications technology (ICT) suite, which has recently been refurbished. There are 17 PCs in the new ICT suite and a further 20 PCs in the classrooms. Outside there is playground space, which includes a seating area, a conservation area, a very large wooden play frame, a Tudor Garden and a playing field. The curriculum includes gymnastics, modern dance, and health related fitness, athletics, orienteering and team games. Students in Year 4 also attend swimming lessons at Gurnell pool. The curriculum is augmented by extra-curricular activities including football, hockey, netball, cross-country, athletics, cricket, rugby and gymnastics.
