Background:
Aylward School is a mixed comprehensive school. The buildings and facilities provide learning resources for over 1700 staff and students and many parents and members of the local community. The school has links with Middlesex University, Southgate College and close links with local commerce and industry. The school's sporting facilities include a sports hall, a gymnasium, a multipurpose playing surface, a fitness room, and playing fields for athletics, cricket, rugby, football and hockey. Students organise assemblies, run various committees act as mentors to younger students, offer peer group support, arrange trips, social events, and take part in numerous community projects and charitable fund-raising. There are many activities on offer at lunchtimes and after-school. These include opportunities for basketball, football, netball, hockey and badminton while the performing arts, science, ICT and design and technology also contribute to the programme of extra-curricular activities. The school aims to enable every child to reach his or her potential in a caring and supportive environment .
