Background:

Westwood Language College for girls is a seven-form entry comprehensive community school for students from 11 to 16 years of ages. It was awarded Specialist Language College Status in September 2002 in recognition of its excellence in the teaching of modern foreign languages. The new status provides additional funding to create state-of-the-art multi-media facilities for language teaching to enhance the curriculum offer for modern language beginning with modern Greek, and to support Westwood's programme of language teaching. The school is also able to enhance its international ethos through the use of technology and plan an expansion of its overseas visits and exchanges. Westwood aims to enable all of its students to become confident and fulfilled young women with high aspirations and the skills and motivation to become lifelong learners and active citizens of its multi-cultural and international society.
