Background:

William Byrd School is based at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in the village of Harlington. The grounds stretching to 15 acres are bordered on three sides by green fields. There is also a pond, a wild life area, two playgrounds with a variety of permanent play equipment, an adventure and a large picnic area under the trees. There are two halls with all necessary gymnastics equipment and two dining areas. All 14 classrooms are equipped to a high standard. The nursery, which is part of the school, has its own classroom, toilets, playground and covered outdoor play area. The food technology room is of a high standard, and the ICT suite of 15 networked computers provides excellent technology facilities. There is also a music room. The school also provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities which include football, netball, cricket, choir, orchestra and recorder. The school has a parent-teacher association who aim to support the school by raising funds to supplement school budget but more importantly by organising social events to provide opportunities for parents, children, friends, relatives and staff to meet and enjoy themselves on an informal basis. The school aims are to: develop and maintain good relationships - care for others, listen and learn; to create a supportive atmosphere based on care, safety and trust and finally to createa 'have a go' culture, where people have the confidence to try new things.
