The school was opened in 1960 as a grammar school and became comprehensive in 1977. The school has built a new teaching block and sports hall and carried out considerable refurbishment to the existing school buildings. A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities are offered including netball, rugby, football, hockey, cricket, tennis and rounders. The school aims to develop pupil's physical, judgmental, problem solving and interpersonal skills as well as their confidence and self-esteem.
