Background:

Founded in 1888 by local residents and clergy; moved to present site on edge of green belt during early 1960s; building surrounded by large playing fields, expanded to accommodate six forms of entry. New music block with recording studio in September 2003; new link building in October 2005 to provide specialist rooms for food technology and science, plus two further general classrooms, all equipped with latest technology. More than 30 courses offered at AS/A-level, including classical civilisation, textiles, politics, media studies, dance, and food. School emphasises excellent extra-curricular activities in sport, drama and music, while strong links with industry forged to support curriculum. Specialist engineering college status. Before-school care, from 7.45am; after-school care, until 4.30pm. Over-subscribed, with more than four applications per place.
