Background:

Barnes Primary is a community school. It is growing in numbers and will, eventually, become a school with two classes in each year-group from reception to Year 6. Infant classes have a maximum of 30 children whilst junior classes may have upto 32 children. The school has a 26 place nursery for three to four year olds which offers either morning or afternoon places. The school is a split site school on two sides of quiet cu-de-sac. This gives it the added bonus of extra playground space and the feel of two small schools under one management. All classes have a class teacher and some additional support from teaching assistants and special educational needs teachers. Children are taught in mixed ability classes, grouped by age. In Years 5 and 6 the children are assessed and grouped by ability for mathematics and English. Classes from Year 1 and to Year 6, follow the national curriculum whilst the nursery and reception classes use the foundation stage curriculum for the basis of their planning. The school also offers French as part of the curriculum for some junior children. The school provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to learn at their own pace.
