Background:

The school was founded in 1954 and moved to its present site in 1961 and has the benefit of extensive playing fields. The original buildings have been significantly added to, including a major programme completed in 2000 which includes a superb sports hall. In November 2003 the school opened a new ICT facility to extend further their strong provision in this area. In 2005 it has completed another major building project providing a new science centre, art and English suites, a dining hall and new kitchens, as well as a significantly extended sixth form centre.The school has had Technology College Status since 1995. In 2005 it was identified by the DfES as a high performing specialist school and in January 2006 took on a second specialism in Languages.Maths is particularly strong throughout the school. All students study design and technology through to GCSE, with many taking the electronics course. Over two-thirds take the three separate sciences to GCSE. In year seven all students study French and Chinese Mandarin. The school also offers German, Italian, Spanish and Latin and all students take at least one language to GCSE.Extra curricular activities are particular strength especially in Performing Arts and Sport where the school regularly win trophies in rugby, football, cricket, athletics, cross country and tennis. The school expect the highest standard of personal conduct, the best possible academic performance and a real commitment to the wider life of the school. In return it provides a stimulating yet demanding approach to teaching and learning. Further by working in partnership with parents it seek to ensure each student´s individual needs are met. Through their time at Beths Grammar School they help young men and, in the sixth form, young women, develop the skills and qualities they need for higher education and later life.
