Background:
Bishopshalt opened in 1907 and has been housed within the Hillingdon Village Conservation Area since 1928. The north wing is a listed Victorian mansion while the more recent buildings date from the 1960s and 1970s. Formerly a grammar school, it became comprehensive in 1977 and has been grant-maintained since 1990. In addition to playing fields and tennis courts, the grounds include extensive gardens with a sunken croquet lawn used by sixth-formers. A variety of extra-curricular activities is offered including sports, music and drama. Each year, there is a musical performance, a Shakespeare play and a show put on by juniors. The school orchestra features nearly 50 musicians.
