Background:
Bursted Wood Primary School was opened in 1975. In 1995 seven more classrooms and a nursery were added. Two reception classes are admitted each year. In September 2002 the school became two-form entry. Records of achievement are kept for each individual child, matched to the attainment targets laid down in the national curriculum. These contain teacher assessment of pupils' abilities. Standardised assessments are also carried out to monitor standards in English and mathematics. Pupils play football, netball, touch-rugby, cricket, hockey and rounders. They are get involved in gymnastics, swimming and team games. At least one lesson a week is taken up with sports skills.
