Background:

Christ Church Primary School was founded in 1839, and relocated to its current site in the 1960s. The school has a strong musical tradition, and lessons are offered in piano, cello, violin, woodwind and brass. All pupils learning these instruments eventually join the school orchestra.Extra-curricular activities are seen as an important extension to academic study. In addition to musical and sports clubs, there are opportunities for dancing, French, drama and more. The school's ethos is based in the Christian faith and there are strong links with the church, where services for all the main fesivals are held, to which parents are welcome. Pupils are taught to respect and understand those from other cultures, and informed about religion and cultural backgrounds at a level appropriate to their age. Links with the community are put into practice at Christmas, when children go out to retirement homes and church groups to entertain senior citizens. The parent-teacher association is very active, and arranges events throughout the year.
