Background:
Hook Lane Primary School was founded in 1910 and moved to new premises in 1988. It is made up of the following classes: Nursery (morning/afternoon), two reception and two classes for each year group (Year 1 to Year 6). The school admits 60 pupils per year into its reception classes. The curriculum covers the core subjects of English, mathematics, science and information and communication technology and foundation subjects: history, geography, art, music, physical education, design technology, personal and social education and religious education. The literacy and numeracy strategies operate throughout the school. Physical education includes gymnastics, dance and games. At Key Stage 1, children should reach Level 2 for English and mathematics; at Key Stage 2, the average 11 year old should reach Level 4 in English, mathematics and science.
