Background:

Ricards Lodge High School was built in 1875 and remains part of the current complex.The school is fortunate to be situated in a pleasant residential area between Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon town centre. Modern buildings added to its Victorian lodge are set in attractive, open grounds with trees and shrubs. Students particularly value its grounds with their abundance of wildlife-squirrels, birds, foxes and badgers. The playing fields are all on site, together with ample tennis and netball courts. There are classroom for all subjects, and well-equipped specialist areas for a variety of activities: art, pottery, fashion and textiles rooms, business education suite, careers library, drama studios, food technology rooms, a gymnasium, a main hall with two stages, a music suite, science laboratories and technology workshops. There is access to the buildings for disabled people and the main building has a lift. The curriculum is enriched by a wide range of activities, which make use of facilities in the local community and further afield. A wide range of school clubs offers the opportunity for enjoyment and the development of skills in a purposeful but informal atmosphere. Activities include art, chess, fashion, music, drama, sport and helps clubs in a range of academic subjects. Opportunities for music are varied and popular. Regular concerts give opportunities for performance to soloists and groups of musicians. The school aims to provide a stimulating, secure and purposeful environment in which each student is motivated to strive for excellence in both academic achievement and personal development.
