Background:
St Catherine's Roman Catholic School for Girls founded in 1955 by La Sainte Union sisters, for 200 girls. The school has increased gradually and by 2008 there will be 1050 girls. Originally 11-19, it was recently reorganised into an enlarged 11-16 school. The school is highly academically successful comprehensive school. The school is currently building a new sports hall and arts block, completed in September 2005. The school is over-subscribed with 405 applications for 210 places. The school promotes Catholic and Christian ethos, perfectibility of the students and high achievement community.
