Background:
The school follows the National Curriculum, which includes the three core subjects: English, mathematics and science. Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum is completed in years one and two, with standardised assessment test (SATs) undertaken in reading, writing and mathematics when children are aged 7. Key Stage followed in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. The school works to instill in its children religious and moral codes, which will sustain them through later life and help them develop into moral and responsible adults. The school's information and communication technology (ICT) curriculum is designed to help children acquire the knowledge and skills relevant to adult life in a fast changing technological world. A new computer suite enables them to teach information and communication technology (ICT) skills, including safe access to the internet, in class groups. In design and technology, children are encouraged to work with a variety of materials to design and make products and to test, evaluate and improve upon their ideas. Art is an essential part of the curriculum, providing children with the opportunity to create and to communicate, to improve manipulative skills and to heighten their sensory powers. Music is an integral part of its curriculum and collective acts of worship. In physical education lessons, through games, gymnastics and dance, children are encouraged to enjoy using their bodies to develop their physical abilities and coordination and to express ideas and feelings in response to music and other stimuli. The school aims to help children to do their best and achieve their own personal goals, to recognise each child as an individual and value them for their own particular talents and skills, to develop physical skills and an understanding of how to live a healthy life and to reward children for their achievements and challenge them to strive for excellence.
