Background:

Clerkenwell Parochial Church of England Primary School was founded in 1700. The school has a rich history including being housed in what is thought to be the oldest purpose-built school building in London (1828). The building gives the school a unique charm and is very much part of its identity. The school is committed to providing high quality education within a Christian context. There are several lunchtime or after-school clubs, which children can join. These include choir, football, swimming, guitar, drama, boating and a student council. Sports play an important role in school life in that it promotes teamwork, responsibility and the realisation of goals. The school takes part in borough-wide sport competitions in football and swimming and it has very successful teams in both. The girls' football team recently won the Le Sainte Union GNVQ tournament and the school swimming team has held the Islington Swimming Gala title for the past six years. Educational outings are a vital part of the curriculum and are arranged from time to time. The school has developed into a Church school with an environment in which tolerance, shared knowledge, mutual esteem, responsibility and respect are encouraged.
