Background:

The school was established in September 1960 and its present modern building was opened in 1966. It has seven 'large, airy' classrooms, a library and a hall which holds the whole school for assemblies and other functions and is also 'fully equipped with modern gymnastic apparatus'. Two minutes walking distance from Wimbledon Common in a locality which has a mixture of privately owned housing and council flats, the school follows all National Curriculum subjects and French is taught to all classes from the age of four to 11. After-school clubs include football, cricket, netball, mixed games, choir, computer, violin and guitar. The school regularly takes part in locally arranged sporting events after school and on Saturday mornings, It has close links with its local parish church and old people's home and raises funds for the Catholic children's society and the Mission Club. The school has Investor in People status. Parents regularly help in classrooms and there is a parents' fund-raising committee for extras used in school. A nursery class will be opening in April 2001.
