Background:
The sisters of Notre Dame de Namur founded St Mary's RC Primary School in 1870. It now occupies a single storey, 25-year-old building, which offers hard areas for play plus a narrow field and trees to the rear. Most children walk to school from the surrounding areas. Extra-curricular activities include football, short tennis, netball, rounders and cross-country. Children also take part in local school leagues. The school responds to local and global charities and this year are supporting three main childrens charities. St Mary's aims to provide 'a broad and balanced education suited to the needs of each child, which fosters his/her spiritual, moral, cultural and social development'.
