Background:

St Osmund's is a Catholic primary school, classified as a voluntary aided school, the buildings being owned and maintained by the Catholic Diocese of Southwark. It is fortunate to be situated in the heart of Barnes village, in semi-rural surroundings opposite the village green and pond. The site was originally the convent of the Sacred Heart which opened as a Catholic School in 1905. It was founded in 1968 and is housed in attractive, specially designed buildings. Set between two large playgrounds and surrounded by the old convent walls, it retains the charm and ambience of its traditional setting. The infant department has three spacious classrooms, a library, and an open communal area for art and crafts and medical/small group room. The four classrooms of the junior department lead on to a large open-plan, multi-purpose area. The central hall, which links the two departments, has been carefully planned to serve as an assembly/drama area, dining hall, community meeting hall, and an exceptionally well equipped gymnasium. The school aims to enable each individual to fulfil their spiritual and academic potential and to be at all times witness to Jesus Christ. The school works on close partnership with parents and creates a warm and welcoming environment where all children are celebrated and valued.
