Background:

Stepney Greencoat is a Church of England school, founded in 1710 by the inhabitants of the Hamlet of Ratcliffe for the education of local children. The school moved to the Whitehorse road site in 1970. Facilities include a 'large' patio, hard play area, environmental area and 'large' hall. Stepney Greencoat believes that P.E is a vital and unique contributor to a pupil's physical and emotional health, development and well being'. When possible they arrange for outside coaching from professional bodies. In Year 2 children go away for a weekend to the Gorsefield Rural Studies Centre and in Year 6 children will go on a school journey at some point in the year. Extra-curricular activities include football training, drama club and choir (the school choir recorded a series of school music programmes for the BBC). Stepney Greencoat seeks to 'build a partnership between the school, parents and their children, so that each child has the opportunity to be supported and encouraged to reach their potential both academically and socially'.
