Background:

Formed in 1976, following amalgamation of Holy Family Convent with St Paul's Catholic Secondary School; based on two sites, with Years 7 to 9 in Sydney Road and Years 10 to 11 in Mornington Road. Extensive buildings programme since 1995, including new sixth-form block, teaching block for range of subjects, theatre, new buildings for design and technology, ICT suite, refurbishments to art accommodation, two new science laboratories in addition to refurbishment of science accommodation. Extensive range of subjects: 27 GCSEs (some for Year 8 and 9 pupils as twilight provision), 16 AS-levels, and 27 A-levels. Recent additions to the curriculum include AS and A-level Geology, triple-award science, GCSE Astronomy, AS Electronics, AS and A-level Film Studies and GCSE Psychology; also Open University short courses to Year 11 and 12 students. Range of sporting activities, both within and outside the curriculum. School involved in public lecture programme, annual medical ethics programme, work with scientific researchers in residence, and involvement with British Council. School is affiliated member of East London Community Organisation; links in Tanzania and South Africa. Specialist science college status from 2002.
