Background:

The John Roan School was established in 1677 by the Roan family who are recorded as landowners in Greenwich from 1598. Extra-curricular activities include astronomy, punjabi, basketball club, gymnastics, trampolining, computer club, mathematics club, science extension classes, design and technology club, drama workshops, dance club and cross-country. The school teaches religious education according to the agreed syllabus. There is a wide variety of clubs and activities, which enrich and enliven school life. A variety of individuals and groups visit the school including theatre groups, poetry performers, dance and drama groups. All students have the opportunity to participate in the exciting music programme that enriches the curriculum offer. The department has a large team of visiting instrumental teachers and every pupil who shows an interest has a choice of individual lessons from a wide range of instruments including strings, brass, percussion, keyboard and voice.
