Background:

The school'serves a rich and diverse community and follows the Borough's policy statement regarding education for a multi-ethnic society. In addition to the national curriculum, a broader curriculum is offered allowing pupils to enhance learning, valuing and respecting themselves and others. The school has a number of after-school clubs including football, basketball, drama, dance, record and art, all of which are free of charge. The school follows the national literacy strategy, and every class has a literacy lesson for one hour each day. The national curriculum allows information and communication technology (ICT) to be taught as a cross-curricular activity being incorporated into work in other areas where appropriate. The school has a computer suite with sufficient computers for whole class lessons, where children have the opportunity to access the internet to broaden their research skills. The art curriculum offers children the chance to explore ideas and different media in a structured, creative way and builds on expertise gained in preceding years. The school believes that all beliefs should be valued and respected. The school follows the QCA curriculum that has a broad-based approach to studying different religions and aspects of beliefs. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum, which comprises the elements of gymnastics, dance, outdoor games, outdoor and adventurous activities and swimming.
