Background:
The building of Hayes Primary School dates from 1937 but the school has its origins in the Hayes Church School which was founded in 1792. The school badge depicts the emblem of St Mary's Church. The school is in the process of expanding from two-form to three-form entry. To accomodate this expansion, a large extension of 12 new classrooms and a second hall is presently being built adjacent to the existing school. Children at the school learn French in Years 5 and 6 and have a residential trip to France in their final year. There is a range of extra-curricular activities at the school, with sporting activities including football, netball, hockey, tennis, golf, gymnastics, cricket and athletics. In 1999 the mixed hockey team won the Bromley Hockey Championship and went on to represent Bromley in the Heathrow Youth Games winning the bronze medal. There is also a school choir, chess club, country dancing club and drama club. Each year the school raises money for various charities.
