Background:
Yardley Primary was founded in 1939 and is situated on a 'green site' on the edge of Epping Forest. The school grew rapidly after the Second World War and now has 14 classrooms, a library hall and a computer hall in the main building, and a large field and natural science area on the grounds. The Early Years Unit is in a separate building which opened in 1996 and houses nursery and reception classes. The school has enjoyed 'notable successes' in cross-country running, cricket and netball in recent years. There are many clubs available for juniors to join - Yardley has won the 'London in Bloom' competition twice in three years. Information technology is a 'major feature' of the school and older pupils use laptops 'extensively' and have access to the internet via a network of computers. 'We value our place in the community and have strong links with the local church and running clubs'.
