Background:
Abbey Wood School is set in its extensive grounds of approximately 12.5 acres. There are on-site playing fields, six tennis courts, three gymnasia and a fitness training room. In the past two years the school has refurbished part of the technology area as well as the learning support unit. The school now has two state-of-the-art science laboratories, six computer suites and a city learning centre with high specification ICT equipment. The learning resource centre and library provide excellent facilities. The school offers a variety of lunchtime and after-school clubs and activities. These include languages, art, computer, archery, photography, football, cricket, cheer dance and basketball. There are also regular sports matches and fixtures both within the school and in competition with others. The performing arts department stages several presentations. There are many curriculum trips to museums, theatres and concerts throughout the year. The school aims to provide a calm and purposeful atmosphere where students feel valued and work to achieve their full potential.
