Background:
A smaller than average school, Clitterhouse Junior School aims for 'academic excellence by providing a broad and balanced curriculum'. Literacy and numeracy are a high priority as is further development of information technology. The cultural background of pupils is very mixed, and the school receives extra funding for the high percentage of children for whom English is a second language. Most of the pupils at the school have been in attendance at the nursery school on the same site. There are a high number of children with special educational needs, the school aims to cater for these and 'any child with special educational needs will be supported appropriately within the school.' The school'seeks to 'create an environment where staff and children can work together in a caring and safe atmosphere which also encourages appropriate social skills'.
