Background:

The main school building was recently refurbished and offers two courtyard gardens, an environmental area and a hard area. An annex building caters for science and indoor physical education. The school is over-subscribed, with 1.7 applications received for every place, and nine out of 10 pupils continue education after the age of 16. A 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities are offered, from theatre visits to soccer, and clubs include art, drama, Urdu, paired reading, textiles, computers and homework. The school enjoys 'success' in public speaking contests and has won local heats in the Young Consumer of the Year and the Nat West mathematics competition. It also offers environmental design, a self-financing steel band, two weeks work experience for all pupils in Year 11 and a parents association. 'The school is a positive, encouraging but disciplined community. It believes in striving for the best one can achieve, whatever that level'.
