                         Background:
Opened in 1955, Ellingham has developed from a school on the verge of closure to a thriving and oversubscribed one-form entry school, to the extent that the local education authority has considered re-building the school as a two-form entry establishment on a nearby site. Recent developments include a purpose-built nursery unit, a huge adventure playground, and an environmentally friendly playground area funded by a first prize from Marks and Spencer school environment development competition. Most recently, a 35-place computer suite has been built. The school enjoys support from parents, who have helped to develop many of the recent initiatives, and it operates an open door approach to parents, encouraging open dialogue. Twice a year, there is a whole school concert and there are also many sporting clubs and extra-curricular activities such as gardening which add to the ethos of celebrating the achievement of all children. The school is oversubscribed. The school aims to encourage all children to fulfil their potential, irrespective of gender and ability.
