Background:

Goodrich Community School is a county community primary school accepting children from the age of three in the nursery until they leave for secondary school at the age of 11. The school aims to provide a broad range of sport and games through its physical education programme. These activities will include gymnastics, ball games and athletics. Swimming is provided on a rota basis for the junior classes. At various times in Key Stage 2 children are entered for inter-school sports. These include swimming galas, football, cricket and uni hoc tournaments. The school has three hall spaces suitable grass play areas. There are also three hard outside playgrounds for outdoor games. The school has no access to suitable grass play areas. The school uses Dulwich Baths swimming pool. The curriculum of Goodrich School is more than a set of subjects. It consists of all those activities and experiences that are designed to encourage pupil's spiritual, moral, cultural, social, intellectual and physical development in order to prepare them for a successful future. The National Numeracy and Literacy Strategies are formally established alongside science, religious education, physical education, ICT and music. The remainder of the timetable is dedicated to providing a 'broad and balanced curriculum'. In these sessions children are taught geography, history, design and technology, art and craft, drama and PHSE (personal, social and health education) either as separate subjects or through an integrated approach.
