Background:
St Augustine's CE Primary 'seeks in its daily life, work and worship to embody in action the loving tradition of Christian values and faith'. Applications exceed places by 50 per cent. The school is strongly linked with St Augustine's Church. Community links are further developed by the Friends of St Augustine's Primary School, which was recently founded 'to improve the children's school experience' with social events and fundraising for repairs and additional equipment for the school. The school has a playcentre, run by Westminster Youth Services, which provides a variety of activities after school and during holidays. In addition to sports and outdoor games, children may play in 'home corner' watch television or work on art and crafts. The St Augustine's staff and pupils enjoy the 'multi-cultural ethos and celebrate the many (27+) first languages' spoken by pupils. Resources are being further developed to support pupils with English as an Additionl Language which include bi-lingual books and tapes. A member of staff works full time on English as an Additionl Language support in conjunction with teachers and classroom assistants.
