Background:
Stanley County Junior School opened in 1906. Since then it has been extended and developed and is now a three-form entry school. There are two main buildings, one of which houses an indoor swimming pool with changing facilities. All classrooms are 'well-equipped and decorated so that the children work in a comfortable and welcoming environment'. Other facilities include a computer room, library and, a 'large' playing field and garden. Bus routes and British Rail stations are within 'easy walking distance'. Competitive sport has an important role in the school and it is well known for its 'successful participation in a wide range of sports for boys and girls'. In 1998-9 the school were winners of the Hampton School 6-a-side football tournament and winners of the Twickenham CTP tennis tournament for years 4 and 5. Other extra curricular activities include the school choir, orchestra, drama and art and, chess. The school has a 'long-standing relationship' with Friends of Teddington, the local Hospital and have a yearly charities day.
