Background:

Buckingham Primary School is a neighbourhood school serving the community of the Nurserylands, Hampton and Hanworth. It has accommodation for up to 420 children aged between four and 11 years in the main school and 52 part-time places in the nursery class. The school opened in 1976 and has grown with the community to its present size. The extensions to the school now provide an excellent learning environment; it has specialist facilities for science and technology, music, drama and dance, an information technology room and junior library. This school offers a broad curriculum that encompasses the essential basic skills whilst affording plenty of opportunity for varied and direct experiences. At Buckingham it wants to provide children with a wide and varied curriculum, which challenges every child to reach their full potential. It has an ITC suite, connected to the internet which all classes can use and a bank of computers in the infant department. Buckingham Primary School offers a variety of after school sports clubs for children in the juniors. Football, tennis and netball clubs operate in the autumn and spring terms; the teams playing matches in organised Borough Leagues and tournaments. During the summer term it operates after school athletics and cricket clubs, culminating in the district sports events, which take place at Twickenham rugby football ground, and a cricket league and festival. The children also look forward to its own sports day, which takes place in the summer term. Other clubs available are drama, recorders and basketball. Buckingham Primary School aim is to create an environment at school within which each child can feel valued, secure and happy.
