Background:
Housed in a single-storey building which was built in 1984 in a socially mixed inner city area, the school is part of an education action zone. It believes in providing 'as broad an education as possible' and aims to ensure that all children are taught the foundation subjects in 'as much depth as possible'. It also aims to fully include children with special educational needs, particularly autism, as well as to 'increase parental awareness and involvement'. The school works in 'close liaison' with the private sector. In 1998 it was the sixth most improved school in England according to the Times Educational Supplement, and was one of the first schools to have an individualized home-school agreement. It also offers a 'wide range of after-school clubs' and has won 'numerous' sports trophies.
