Background:
George Mitchell School is an 11 to 16 comprehensive school, attended by students who mainly live in the local area, although some do come from further field. The buildings have been expended greatly during the last few years. A new gym and a new science block have been built. The school has also been attractively re-furbished and decorated, with a new learning resource centre and new facilities for all the technology subjects. Religious education is taught within the humanities course. The school is proud of its cultural diversity and the number of languages other than English, which are spoken by students and their families. Individual instrumental tuition can be provided by the Borough's peripatetic teachers as well as by those employed by the school. The school aims to offer a happy, safe and secure environment in a family atmosphere.
