Background:
Gillespie School was built in 1878 and is housed in a Victorian 'triple decker' building. There is a large library, a music and computer room as well as a resources room that is also used for special needs work. The reception class, nursery and the early years centre are housed on the ground floor. There are three classes on each of the other floors. The school is a community primary school with a nursery class and an early years centre for two to three year olds. It is set in an unusual Victorian building with two main playgrounds and a smaller area for the nursery and early years centre. The playgrounds have play structures, a substantial number of plants and examples of pupil's artwork. There are a number of extra-curricular activities operating during and after school, which include gymnastics, violin lessons and piano lessons Gillespie School creates an inclusive and caring community n which all children are encouraged to reach their full potential.
