Background:

The school was founded in 1769 by a bequest from Sarah Bonnell and was one of the first girls' schools in the country. It is located in the heart of Stratford and possesses excellent facilities for the delivery of a 21st century education. These include an innovative technology village, a new learning resources centre, dedicated music, art, drama and science areas and extensive IT facilities. The school is proud of its 'pioneering tradition' and has piloted numerous national and international educational initiatives including the Prince's Trust Study Support, a Socrates-funded self-evaluation project, the Gifted and Talented/Excellence in Cities initiative and literacy/numeracy summer schools. It is a Beacon school and holds the Charter Mark award. Particular curriculum strengths are art, graphics, music, drama and community languages and the school offers additional GCSE courses in music, community languages and statistics. A thriving extra-curricular programme includes IT clubs, school choir, jazz band, the DoF award scheme, summer camp and holiday activity schemes, GCSE study support and sports programmes including swimming and cricket teams, trampolining, dance and athletics.
